Brief Introduction of the Program

After Snow White and Roméo et Juliette, Angelin Preljocaj returns to narrative ballet. Combining Tchaikovsky's musical masterpiece with more contemporary arrangements as he likes to do, he takes possession of the myth of the swan princess and transposes the story into today society’s context, at the heart of the issues of our time.

Odette is a young girl sensitive to environmental issues. As for Siegfried, he is the son of the CEO of a company specializing in the sale of drilling platforms. One evening, while Odette is strolling along Swan Lake, she comes face to face with Rothbart, a crooked entrepreneur and wizard in his spare time. He has discovered a fossil fuel deposit on the shores of the lake and is looking to exploit the land. But when confronted by the young girl, whom he fears will thwart his plans, he uses his powers to transform her into a swan...
